How does this website work?

Welcome to the brand new website about Flemish Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI). To give you a head start, we explain the basics.

The site consists of two main mirror sections - a blue and a green one - which you can switch by clicking the grey menu on the right. The activated item then moves to the central part, while the menu of the deactivated section becomes grey and slides to the right. The section on the Department of Economy, Science and Innovation, with a blue menu structure and blue shaded pages, contains a mix of information on our department and its staff members, our publications, responsibilities, policy, news and events. The alternate section concerning Economy, Science and Innovation in Flanders, indicated in green, offers information on the EWI policy domain, regulation, budget and figures. It also includes addresses of our agencies and partners. Special features such as Budget Browser and EWI Review have their own sections. Visit the purple red Budget Browser section for more information on public budget. The orange red section of EWI Review is dedicated to our quarterly magazine, EWI Review. Return to the blue or green main section by clicking the grey menus on the right.

Where can I find publications of the Flemish Government concerning economy, science and technological innovation?

A survey of publications on economy, science and innovation can be found on our website and in the publication database of the Flemish Government. Until stock lasts, one or more copies can be ordered free of charge.

Can a private individual obtain financial support for a scientific project?

The department of Economy, Science and Innovation does not extend direct financial support to private scientific projects.

We advise the individual project applicant to look for organisations and associations that can offer development opportunities to the project. We refer you to the WetenschapsInformatieNetwork (WIN or Science Information Network) to look for expertise and exchange possibilities concerning science information and popularisation in Flanders (only available in Dutch).

Within the scope of the Action Plan Science Communication, financial support is granted to projects which promote science popularisation. This action plan particularly aims at larger organisations or associations.

Can a school submit a project to the Department in order to obtain financial support?

EWI does no longer organise calls for school projects concerning science information. The last call for school projects dates from 2003.

For schools, however, there are other possibilities, such as the dynamo3 projects: the school projects of the Canon Culture Cell of the Department of Education. Find more information on the website www.dynamo3.be (only in Dutch) or by telephone on the number +32 2 553 96 63 (ask for Jan Luyten or Jan Staes). The dynamo3 projects involve a whole range of topics and themes: environment, health, technique, transport, culture etc.

The department still organises the general projects concerning science information. More information about the approved projects of 2009.

Where can I browse the Flemish legislation?
