About EWI in Flanders
" Integrating Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI)
in the policy domain, we resolutely choose for the development
of a knowledge-intensive economy in Flanders."
“Conducting Flanders to the European top of regions should be our ambition. As this is only the bare minimum, our ambition should reach further. Flanders should be able to measure itself with other non-European growth regions in the global economy if it wants to secure its prosperity for the present and the next generations.
This requires a great deal of effort from all policy domains in the Flemish government, but particularly from the policy domain Economy, Science and Innovation and that of Foreign Affairs. The policy concerning Economy, Science and Innovation definitely heads for the development of a knowledge economy in Flanders. Flanders has to become a top region with regard to both knowledge creation – educating and training people – and economical and social validation of this knowledge in economic growth, jobs and welfare.
This requires an integrated approach. Primarily between the policy fields Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI in Dutch), but also across the borders of the Flemish Government's policy domains. In the field of Science and Innovation, the ambitions mesh with those at European level. Increasing the resources is only the first step - the allocation and spending of the funds has to be implemented intelligently in order to maximise the economic and social result.”
