Het Joint Research Centre (*) van de Europese Commissie wil vanaf december 2017 haar onderzoeksinfrastructuur openstellen voor onderzoekers uit de private en publieke sector.
In een eerste fase (2017-2018) zal het gaan om bepaalde delen van de faciliteiten in Ispra (Italië).
Nadien volgen nog infrastructuur in Geel (België), Karlsruhe (Duitsland) en Petten (Nederland).

(*) Het Joint Research Centre (JRC) is de interne wetenschappelijke dienst van de Europese Commissie en heeft als taak het EU-beleid over de gehele beleidscyclus te voorzien van onafhankelijke, op feiten gebaseerde wetenschappelijke en technische ondersteuning.
Het JRC stelt meer dan 3000 mensen te werk en krijgt op basis van Horizon 2020 een jaarlijks budget van zowat 356 miljoen euro voor directe ondersteuning van EU-instellingen.
