Zes jonge onderzoekers aan Vlaamse universiteiten krijgen ERC-beurs

Logo Europese OnderzoeksraadDe Europese Onderzoeksraad (ERC) heeft 10 beurzen, de zogenaamde ERC Starting Grants (*), toegekend aan tien Belgische onderzoeksprojecten. Zes van de projecten worden uitgevoerd aan Vlaamse universiteiten.

De beurzen gaan naar jonge onderzoekers (early-career researchers) en stelt hen in staat om hun eigen onderzoeksgroep samen te stellen en hun baanbrekend onderzoek verder uit te werken.

Geselecteerden

De tien gehonoreerde projecten die uitgevoerd worden aan Belgische universiteiten zijn:

  • BAEYENS Luc, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Neogenesis of new functional Beta Cells through Modulation of Neurogenin-3 Expression to provide Regenerative Therapy for Diabetes Patients
  • BUYLAERT Frederik, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Lordship and the Rise of States in Western Europe, 1300-1600
  • CAMBRÉ Sofie, Universiteit Antwerpen, Order in one dimension: Functional hybrids of chirality-sorted carbon nanotubes
  • DE MALSCHE Wim, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Exploiting vortices to suppress dispersion and reach new separation power boundaries
  • GILLIS Nicolas, Université de Mons, Constrained Low-Rank Matrix Approximations: Theoretical and Algorithmic Developments for Practitioners PE6
  • KUHN Simon, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Controlled synthesis of particulate matter in microfluidics
  • LAFLEUR Jean-Michel, Université de Liège, Migration and Transnational Social Protection in (post-)crisis Europe
  • MANDOLESSI Silvana, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, We are all Ayotzinapa: The role of Digital Media in the Shaping of Transnational Memories on Disappearance
  • MERLA Laura, Université Catholique de Louvain, Children in multi-local post-separation families
  • MEYFROIDT Patrick, Université catholique de Louvain, Developing middle-range theories linking land use displacement, intensification and transitions

23 landen

ERC financiert in totaal voor 429 miljoen euro aan onderzoek. De maximale beurs per project bedraagt 1,5 miljoen euro. In totaal ontvingen 38 nationaliteiten een beurs. De projecten worden in totaal in 23 landen uitgevoerd.

De meeste beurzen gaan naar:

  • Verenigd Koninkrijk (48)
  • Duitsland (47)
  • Nederland (32)
  • Frankrijk (29)

ERC Starting Grants 2015

(*) ERC Starting Grants are awarded to researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and a scientific track record showing great promise. Research must be conducted in a public or private research organisation located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. The funding (maximum €1.5 million per grant) is provided over up to five years. Two thirds of the ERC budget is earmarked for the Starting Grant and Consolidator Grant schemes, and calls for proposals are published once a year.

Flanders Looks ahead to the Tenth European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

Although Horizon Europe (= the ninth European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation) is only halfway through, preparations for its successor have already begun. Therefore, in Flanders, the Working Group 12 of the Flemish Stakeholder Platform for European Programmes (VEP), has drafted a reflection paper on the future FP10. A similar exercise was done in the past for the current Horizon Europe programme.
