13,8 miljoen euro voor onderzoek naar zeldzame ziektes

Verdubbeling

Vlaams minister van Innovatie Philippe Muyters wil het onderzoek naar weinig voorkomende ziektes en/of behandelingen stimuleren. Daartoe werd het subsidiebedrag voor “Toegepast Biomedisch onderzoek met primair Maatschappelijk finaliteit” (TBM) opgetrokken tot 13,8 miljoen euro, een verdubbeling ten opzichte van voorgaande jaren. Het FWO selecteerde de 18 projecten die zullen worden ondersteund.

Volksgezondheid in Vlaanderen

Het TBM-programma wil met de financiering van klinisch onderzoek naar nieuwe behandel­methoden of preventieve maatregelen voor bepaalde ziektes, bijdragen tot een verbetering van de volksgezondheid in Vlaanderen.

18 projecten

Vlaams minister Philippe Muyters: “Na grondige selectie op wetenschappelijke excellentie en maatschappelijk potentieel selecteerde het FWO 18 projecten van verschillende consortia van onderzoekscentra. Het gaat om medisch onderzoek waarin de industrie niet geïnteresseerd is omwille van bijvoorbeeld te kleine patiëntenaantallen. Zonder overheidsfinanciering zouden deze therapieën niet tot bij de patiënt geraken. De TBM-financiering kan dus bepalend zijn voor de realisatie van nieuwe therapieën in Vlaanderen.”
