Databank biodiversiteit oceanen maakt internationaal goede beurt

Databank

Het Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) van IOC-UNESCO, dat in Oostende gehuisvest is, maakt internationaal een goede beurt.

Dat bleek onlangs tijdens de derde onderhandelingssessie in New York inzake een uitvoerend instrument, onder het VN Zeerechtverdrag, over biodiversiteit in de hoge zee (zgn. BBNJ onderhandelingen, ‘Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction’). 

Vele landen denken dat deze gemeenschappelijke databank over de biodiversiteit in de oceanen een belangrijke rol kan spelen inzake de kennisdeling die voor zo’n nieuw wettelijk instrument zou nodig zijn.

VLIZ

Het OBIS-datasysteem is gehuisvest bij het IODE Project Office van IOC-UNESCO in Oostende en wordt op Vlaams niveau door het Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee (VLIZ) ondersteund.

In verdere onderhandelingen moet nog duidelijk worden wat de toekomstige rol van OBIS en IOC zal zijn.

Flanders Looks ahead to the Tenth European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

Although Horizon Europe (= the ninth European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation) is only halfway through, preparations for its successor have already begun. Therefore, in Flanders, the Working Group 12 of the Flemish Stakeholder Platform for European Programmes (VEP), has drafted a reflection paper on the future FP10. A similar exercise was done in the past for the current Horizon Europe programme.
