Plantenpaleis in Plantentuin Meise schittert weer

Masterplan Het Masterplan houdt een volledige renovatie in van het domein en de gebouwen tegen 2026 met onder meer: twee bezoekerscentra, aanleg van verschillende thematische tuinen, een gloednieuw serrecomplex voor onderzoek en conservatie en een houtmuseum. 

Na jaren van renovaties werd het vernieuwde Plantenpaleis in de Plantentuin Meise zondag officieel ingehuldigd in het bijzijn van ministers Philippe Muyters en Ben Weyts.

De renovatie is een eerste grote stap in het masterplan van de Vlaamse overheid voor de Plantentuin Meise. Tegen 2026 moet de volledige renovatie van het het domein en zijn gebouwen afgerond zijn om zo de collectie van 10.000 tropische en subtropische plantensoorten en veilig onderkomen te geven.

Tot dat masterplan behoren ook twee bezoekerscentra, thematische tuinen een gloednieuw serrecomplex voor onderzoek en conservatie en een houtmuseum.

Minister Muyters:

"Vlaanderen investeert maar liefst 100 miljoen euro om van onze plantentuin dé botanische tuin van Europa te maken. Als toeristische attractie, maar ook als internationale wetenschappelijke referentie."

Om de renovatie te vieren kan het publiek de komende negen weken elke van 24 september tot 26 november ook uitzonderlijk op zondag de gloednieuwe serres bezoeken en zich in een andere wereld wanen.
