Vlaamse start-ups krijgen hub in New York

Coaching en begeleiding

Vlaams minister van Innovatie Philippe Muyters stopt 250.000 euro in een proefproject om Vlaamse start-ups te begeleiden in de Verenigde Staten.

De steun verloopt via het Leuvense innovatiecentrum Imec, dat de zogenaamde 'Flanders New York Accelerator' (FNYA) mee zal begeleiden.

Zes Vlaamse start-ups krijgen tussen januari en april intensieve coaching en begeleiding in New York bij hun eerste stapjes op de Amerikaanse markt.

Renteloze lening

De start-ups Ontoforce, Lynxcare, Twikit, Yields.io en Hashting krijgen elk 50.000 euro, Arco financiert zijn deelname zelf.

Dat geld is geen subsidie, maar een renteloze lening die de bedrijven moeten terugbetalen.

FNYA komt er omdat Vlaamse start-ups na hun doorbraak in België direct de overstap naar de VS zouden moeten maken.

Nu proberen ze vaak eerst de Europese markt te veroveren, terwijl de kansen in de VS veel groter zijn. Maar door het verschil in cultuur, de grote markt en een gebrek aan kennis van de Amerikaanse techsector is het voor bedrijven bijzonder complex om alleen de overstap te wagen.

FNYA moet daarbij een gids spelen.

Therefore, in Flanders, the Working Group 12 of the Flemish Stakeholder Platform for European Programmes (VEP), has drafted a reflection paper on the future FP10. A similar exercise was done in the past for the current Horizon Europe programme.
